2023 UK Tour of Ashley Wass

Over the course of 2023, CMDI will be organising a multi-stop UK tour for the internationally-acclaimed UK pianist Ashley Wass.
Wass, who holds the position of Director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin School, is a Gramophone Award nominee, winner of the London International Piano Competition in 1997, and prizewinner at the Leeds Piano Competition in 2000, and has already enjoyed a glittering career, collaborating with many of the top orchestras and ensembles of our time in some of the most renowned music halls in Europe, America and beyond.
This latest tour will see the British pianist travel all around the UK, delivering recital performances at a number of prestigious venues in the country, with concerts set to be held at Harrogate, Wiltshire, Cardiff, Norwich, Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, Lichfield and Manchester, among others.
Throughout this year-long initiative, the pianist shall be presenting a recital which traverses the centuries, with a programme that begins with Beethoven’s intimate and spiritually sublime Sonata in E major Op 109, before moving forward in time to Alexey Shor and Mikhail Pletnev’s Piano Sonata, a highly communicative and deeply moving work that displays a interesting combination of elegant tonality and technical brilliance. Bach’s timeless Partita No.1 comes next, and the programme then concludes with Shostakovich’s Prelude and Fugue No 24 in D minor, a towering monument of 20th Century piano music.
