2025 Concert Season at Teatro Marrucino
Across the course of 2025, CMDI will be presenting a number of concerts and recitals in collaboration with the renowned Teatro Marrucino in the Italian city of Chieti, an officially-designated Theatre of Tradition by the Italian Ministry of Culture, and one of the oldest active theatres in Europe.
The organisation, working together with Artistic Director Giuliano Mazzoccante, a renowned Italian pianist who has now become a familiar face amongst the top echelons of Europe’s cultural sector, will be presenting a wide variety of events throughout the season, bringing some of the world’s biggest classical music stars to the stage of the Marrucino.
The season opens on Sunday, 4 May at 18:00 with Emozioni a Lume di Candela, before the Orchestra da Camera Duchi d’Aquaviva presents I Love Cinema on Sunday, 18 May at 20:30, with a programme dedicated to iconic film scores by Rota and Morricone. The following concert, on Sunday, 25 May at 18:00, will take the form of a chamber event, and then after the summer break, the season resumes with the first of two violin-focused programmes entitled Stars of Violin.
The first of these, on Sunday, 7 September at 18:00, will see Mazzoccante himself partnering with Japanese violinist Daishin Kashimoto, First Prize winner at the 1994 Cologne International Violin Competition, 1996 Fritz Kreisler Competition, and 1996 Long-Thibaud International Competition, and Artistic Director of the Le Pont Music Festival. The second Stars of Violin event then follows on Sunday, 14 September at 18:00, with Mazzoccante this time taking to the stage alongside the inimitable Kazakh violinist Roman Kim, First Prize winner of the 2011 Cologne International Music Competition, and the 28th International Music Competition "VALSESIA MUSICA".
Kicking off the autumn events, the renowned cellist Alexander Chaushian (Armenia/UK), winner of the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition, and the ARD Competition in Germany; Artistic Director of the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus and the Yerevan Music Festival in Armenia; and cello professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London, will appear in recital on Sunday, 5 October at 18:00, along with acclaimed Italian pianist Enrico Pace, a Grammy Award nominee, and winner of the 1989 Utrecht International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, amongst others, for a spectacular duo recital.
The season then continues on Sunday, 26 October at 18:00 with a choral–orchestral programme, before a major highlight of the year comes to the fore on Wednesday 12th November at 21:00 in the shape of a spectacular concert that brings together two of the most distinguished artists in classical music today. Indeed, audiences across Italy and beyond will be able to witness a veritable legend in action, as the celebrated Swiss pianist Mikhail Pletnev, Gold Medal and First Prize winner of the 1978 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, winner of the 1996 Gramophone Award and 2005 Grammy Award, and Founder and Artistic Director of the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra, teams up with the young Swedish star Daniel Lozakovich, the virtuoso violinist who has been an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist since the age of 15, and is the winner of the 2016 Vladimir Spivakov International Violin Competition Winner and recipient of the “Young Artist of the Year 2017” award at the Festival of Nations.
The season concludes on Sunday, 30 November at 18:00 with a chamber concert by the Quartetto Sangiorgi.
