Canada Premiere of A Thousand Tales
CMDI is proud to announce the Canadian premiere of the acclaimed ballet A Thousand Tales, as the work prepares to join the Alberta Ballet repertoire for the company’s distinguished 2025–2026 season. This landmark international transfer marks a major step in the global expansion of the production, following its celebrated premiere at Dubai Opera in 2023 and its subsequent restaging in the same city in 2025.
Created by internationally renowned choreographer and director Francesco Ventriglia, A Thousand Tales is inspired by some of the world’s most beloved stories, weaving together characters and motifs from Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Aladdin, The Three Musketeers, and many others. The ballet combines these narratives through Ventriglia’s theatrical choreographic language, enhanced by Alexey Shor’s vibrant and emotionally expressive score, lavish costume and set designs by Roberta Guidi di Bagno, and atmospheric lighting by Valerio Tiberi.
The Canadian premiere will take place on the 11th of September 2025 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary, followed by performances in the same venue on the 12th of September, and two further entries on the 13th of the month. The production then travels to Edmonton’s Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, where it will be performed on the 19th of September and in two further shows on the 20th of September. A Thousand Tales will be danced by the full ensemble, soloists, and corps de ballet of Alberta Ballet, with Ventriglia himself now serving as the company’s Artistic Director.
