International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo
In May 2023, CMDI will be presenting two concerts as part of the 60th edition of the globally-renowned International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo, which this year is one of the events being held to celebrate Brescia and Bergamo being jointly named as the Italian Capital of Culture.
With the inaugural concerts taking place in both cities during the last week of April, this year’s festival shall run until the 22nd of June and feature dozens of concerts being presented across the two cities. CMDI will be responsible for two of these performances, namely the ones taking place on the 13th and 14th of May.
Showcasing the talents of Italian pianist Federico Colli, the Gold Medal winner at the 2012 Leeds International Piano Competition and exclusive Chandos Records recording artist, the first of these concerts shall be hosted at Brescia’s spectacular Teatro Grande, while the second will see the pianist taking to the stage of the 18th-century Donizetti Theatre in Bergamo.
On both occasions, Colli will be accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Festival, an ensemble gathered together specifically for this event made up of a variety of preeminent artists from across Italy and beyond. For these two dates, the orchestra will be performing under the baton of Brescia’s own Pier Carlo Orizio, one of Italy’s leading international conductors.
Together, the musicians will be presenting an intriguing programme of 20th and 21st-century music, including Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, composed in 1957 for the 19th birthday of the composer’s own son Maxim, and the 2019 piano concerto From My Bookshelf, from the pen of contemporary composer Alexey Shor, with the artists set to interpret a 2021 arrangement of the work prepared by the acclaimed pianist, conductor and composer Mikhail Pletnev.
