Three-Day Rome Residency of Gil Shaham
American violinist Gil Shaham undertook a three-day residency in Rome in May 2026, appearing at the Sala Santa Cecilia of the Auditorium Parco della Musica for a series of performances that placed his music at the heart of one of Italy’s most distinguished musical institutions.
Taking place on the 7th, 9th, and 10th of the month, the residency brought Shaham together with the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, who were led by conductor Daniel Harding, forming a major international artistic collaboration in the Italian capital.
Across the three performances, Shaham presented a varied programme that offered the celebrated violinist an expressive and virtuosic platform through which to display the qualities that have long defined his international career. Performed over three separate evenings, this repertoire became the central thread of the residency, allowing Shaham to return to the work sacross multiple performances and explore their lyricism and dramatic character in greater depth.
By presenting the same pieces across three performances, Shaham’s Rome residency offered audiences the rare opportunity to encounter the works not as a single event, but as a developing musical experience. Each evening created space for new shades of interpretation to emerge, shaped by the dialogue between soloist, conductor, and orchestra. In this way, the residency became more than a sequence of concerts, standing instead as a focused artistic encounter between one of today’s top violinists and one of the leading musical institutions in Italy.
